A Tribe Called Supermodel— A Tribute to 90’s Supermodels

April 15, 2020

In today’s world of fashion, models just being seen as a “human hanger” are long over. Now, they work the runway with style and grace and people all over the world adore them. With the introduction of social media platforms such as Instagram, fans of fashion feel closer than ever to the models we see on the cover of magazines. In 2020, the new tribe of models such as Kaia Gerber, Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid and Bella Hadid are ready to take on a new and fresh approach to the term “SuperModel”.

Of course, before there was a Kendall Jenner, it took some very special ladies to put the word “super” in supermodel. These ladies were bold, daring, edgy, and beautiful. They set trends and blaze the runway with their fierce attitudes and amazing figures. This is a tribute to the supermodels of the 90’s.

By the time the 90’s rolled around, models were taken more seriously and were treated like true superstars. Unlike before, models appeared on talk shows, movies and were always talked about in gossip columns. The biggest change was the amount of money they earned, can you say millionaires! They were the new “IT” girls and everyone loved them. While there were so many amazing supermodels of the 90’s, only five or as I would like to call them the “Fab 5” took the fashion world by storm.

Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington, Claudia Schiffer, and Linda Evangelista took over the world with their long list of accomplishments and even longer legs. They were seen on every cover of every magazine, in movies, television, music videos, and they even opened their own cafe called “Fashion Cafe”. These women were not only beautiful but they were smart and had great personalities. These attributes are what made them so super.

Of course you have your honorable mentions like Kate Moss, Tyra Banks, and Heidi Klum, but there was nothing and nobody like the Fab 5. These ladies were fabulous and we're the definition of fashion. They were also some of the highest paid models in their league, becoming instant millionaires with the success of their careers.

With a new era in fashion many wonder if the term “supermodel” can be used today. Of course you have beautiful ladies like Gisele Bundchen, Adriana Lima, and Karolina Kurkova who I consider supermodels, but in 2020 can there be another supermodel or was the 90’s the decade of the “SuperModel”. Only time can tell if another group of fabulous women can rule the runway in such ways the ladies of the 90’s did.
